Game 10 Recap: Ohio State 59 – Purdue 31

Recap

Going into the game, the storyline for Ohio State was if they could score touchdowns in the redzone after struggling the past two weeks against Penn State and Nebraska. For Purdue, they were seeking to knock off a top 4 team for the third time this season behind a potent passing attack. The answer to both of those storylines played out on the field and in emphatic ways. Ohio State lead 35-7 in a blink of an eye, and although they gave up passing yardage and 2 touchdowns in the second half,  their lead and win never was in doubt. Purdue did everything they could to compete, but the talent level between these two programs was evident, and once Purdue has a ranking next to their name, they had the Buckeyes full attention.

Turning Point

After going up 28-7 in the second quarter, Ohio State kicked off, and Purdue fumbled the punt, allowing the Buckeyes to recover the ball in the redzone. After 2 plays, the score quickly became 35-7, and the Buckeyes took a halftime lead of 45-17.

Star of the Game

Garrett Wilson. His 4 touchdowns in the first half came through the air and on the ground, and the Buckeyes saw how much he was missed last week against Nebraska.

Playoff Picture

Ohio State did what it needed to do and looked impressive despite allowing 390 passing yards. Georgia, Alabama, and Oregon all won as well, so the chances are that will remain to be the top 4 in this weeks College Football Playoff poll. Oklahoma losing helped both Ohio State and Cincinnati as a potential team to jump both if they had remain undefeated.

Looking Ahead

Ohio State (9-1) welcomes Michigan State (9-1) in a top 10 match-up at 12pm on ABC with College GameDay heading to Columbus.

Purdue (6-4) will play Northwestern (3-7) at 12pm at a neutral site at Wrigley Field in Chicago, IL.
